Georgia O’Keeffe (Joan Allen) is an unknown female artist when she discovers her drawingf being displayed by art impresario Alfred Stieglitz (Jeremy Irons) without her permission. She confronts him and demands that he take her collection down, but finds herself taken by his charm. He convinces her to allow him to become her benefactor. Their working relationship evolves as they fall deeply in love. Eventually, Alfred leaves his wife for Georgia.
